29th Sept. Winchester was our destination today. The town is very old and has a magnificent cathedral and an university close to the city centre judging by the number of students wandering the streets. After lunch we moved on to a caravan accessory store to try to get some black streak remover with no luck, out of stock again but a least it was on the way back to the MH.
Close to the site we encountered two pigs sauntering along the road! Now we're used to seeing horses and highland cattle in this area but pigs!!!
During the evening Timmy spent most of the daylight hours on squirrel watch- tied up, much to his annoyance.
27th Sept. I'm finding it difficult to start a new day without 'we went to' or 'today' ! So 'this morning' we took the car to Lyndhurst. The streets are choked with traffic and desperately need a bypassing which apparently is planned but not yet approved. A pretty little place with some unusual shops including a car showroom selling Maserati and Ferrari- we resisted he temptation to buy!
Back to the MH for lunch an then relaxing in the glorious sun for the afternoon (with interruptions from a chatty neighbour).
25th Sept.Yesterday Di had very painful gout in her right foot and the only cure we know is complete rest and anti-inflammatory tablets. She spent the day resting in the MH. I just pottered about.
Today we travelled to Poole on a quest to find out more about a supplier of 'A' frames for towing as the present one is very ugly and heavy. We eventually found the place in an industrial unit and chatted to he owner. Fortunately he had just completed the conversion on a car identical to the new one we have on order so we could see exactly how it will look.
Then we went to the harbour, parked overlooking the boats and had lunch in the car- always a bit of a squeeze with Tim trying to scrounge food! We were overlooking Brownsea Island, recognised as the birthplace of the scout and guide movement.(see photo right of Baden Powell).
It's about a mile and a half long by three quarters of a mile wide, managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust as a nature reserve. It has red squirrels and a Sika deer population.
After lunch Di did some shopping while I had a cuppa and watched the world go by with Tim.
22nd Sept. Lymington beckoned us today- it's a 'yachty' sort of place so we tried to find a marina for a stroll about but failed to find anything suitable. Then we tried to park in the old quay but parking was limited so we headed for the town, parked and found the old quay was nearby. After a stroll around we rambled back to the town to get replacement batteries in both our watches. Di bought Tim a soft toy squirrel which he played with all evening- he would like to get at the real things which are wandering about just outside the MH!!!
We then made a short journey to Milford on Sea, it looked interesting on the map. There's a long promenade next to the beach which is pebbles and has fine views of the Isle of Wight. It looked really close, nevertheless it's a half hour ferry trip!
21st Sept 08. We left Putts Corner at 9.30am with a slow journey of around 100 miles we arrived at the Caravan Club site at 12.30. It's quite a large site with a very new amenities block having individual suites comprising a loo, handbasin and shower all in immaculate condition. The site is on a gradual slope with many hard standings set into the slope. We looked for one away from trees and facing into the sun, our chosen one looked unlevel but I was prepared with my modified levelling blocks. Once in position a glance at the spirit level showed we were absolutely level without any assistance! I still look at the pitch and wonder just how can it be level- an optical delusion!!!!
The afternoon was very hot and sunny so we made the most of it just lazing around outside the MH, then had a walk around the site with Tim looking at the other caravans and MHs.
