OUR HOLIDAY IN TRETHEVY CORNWALL

WEDNESDAY 29th
We got up early but still didn't manage to get away until 9.30am. I made a total balls of packing up firstly by forgetting to retract the rear steadies and then by forgetting to close the water inlet cover- we really need a checklist for leaving site!
At 12.30pm we got home and again I got in a fix with the MH exhaust pipe impaled on the side wall of the drive. It's just not my day! I quickly opened an important looking letter to find I was due in Torbay hospital at 2.55pm to have a heart monitor fited. A quick lunch and away to Torbay!

TUESDAY 28th
Our last day at the site, we went to Port Isaac, just 10 miles down the coast. We’ve been there many times but it’s always interesting to see the changing shops. This time there was a film crew with Martin Clunes doing an episode of Doc Martin. It was interesting to watch but got boring as they repeat the small piece of action so many times until they’re satisfied with the result.

MONDAY 27th
Same again before lunch but took some Imodium to stop the runs, then we were able to go out to Boscastle for the afternoon. Although the sun was out the wind was bitterly cold.

SUNDAY 26TH
Nothing to report today, didn’t go anywhere- bog bound! We did get a good sunset- at last.

SATURDAY 25th
Feeling absolutely shattered today after sleep deprivation. We drove to Par to the covered market- it was a struggle for me to concentrate. I had a sleep in the car while Di went inside to search for slippers for me.
I felt unwell in the evening and missed our evening meal. It was obviously the start of a stomach upset as I had to dash to the toilet at 5am and paid periodic visits every hour or so!

FRIDAY 24th
The weather was forecast to change but held fine for most of the day. After lunch we went to Wadebridge which hasn’t changed since we caravanned in Rock. In the evening Timmy had a visitor, a female Border Terrier called Maisie, who was also staying on site. Both of them enjoyed a good rough and tumble.
At bedtime the predicted high winds and rain started with the MH rocking violently preventing us from getting any sleep. Without a doubt, the worst night we have ever had.

THURSDAY 23rd
Last night we had a poor night’s sleep as the wind had picked up at bedtime and produced an intermittent squeak. I assumed it was the MH moving on the rear steadies or the suspension, either way, we were disturbed by it. So the next morning I wound up the steadies- it didn’t stop. I rummaged around under the bed with my head through the locker door and suspected the heating unit – so I temporally blocked its air inlet- it didn’t stop. I then looked underneath suspecting the suspension and eureka, there it was swinging away, the cover over the external TV aerial point! I clipped it closed and silence!
In the afternoon we took the coast path northwards towards Boscastle. The weather was fine & bright with only a slight breeze, perfect for walking. I guess we did 2 miles before turning back. Back at the site our reward was icecreams!

WEDNESDAY 22nd
We set off in the morning for Bude, some 15 miles northwards along the coast and found a suitable car park. Having established the rights and wrongs of doggy bans on local beaches, we headed along the canal towards the beach. Timmy was then let loose and ran to play with a young Spaniel, doing tumbles in a small pool then running in large circles having great fun while we chatted to the owners of the Spaniel.
Then it was time to do the town ramble before coming back to a beach café for lunch. We ordered hot sausage & caramelised onion baguettes- they were massive with 3 sausages in each! Indeed super hot dogs! Needless to say Timmy had some too.
After lunch we set off along the canal towpath away from the town. The canal and banks have been recently restored and now has working lock gates. I guess we walked about 1.5 miles before turning back at the lock gates. I was then time to head for the supermarket for supplies and back to the site for a cuppa and a rest.

TUESDAY 21st
The day started very dull with the sun breaking through about 11am when we were in Tintagel village getting bread and milk for lunch. Di went into the old post office National Trust property while Tim and I stayed outside. As you can see in the photo the roof looks precarious but has been recently replaced with all the tiles being numbered and the roof timbers replace with copies of the old bent originals.
Our plan was to have a walk along the coast path in the afternoon but Di had an upset tummy and needed close proximity to a loo! So I spent most of the afternoon experimenting with the TV trying the facilities of playing MP3 and DVD disks. Unfortunately when I then selected TV we appeared to have lost channel 4, one of Di’s favourites- that’s me in the dog house. I tried everything I could think of to get it but no joy. Early evening I tried again and there it was, very strange, exit dog house!!!

MONDAY 20th
Having spent a very quiet night, we were delighted to find another bright sunny day, again with very little wind. We enjoyed sitting in the sun again in the morning and went for a walk through Rocky Valley over the cliff tops in the afternoon. It wasn’t a long distance but was extremely hilly with loads of steps as you can see from the photo. Di thought it would be too much for her but managed it relatively easily- tomorrow will be the test for aches and pains. The gorse was in full bloom with a smell that reminded me of “candle shops”!
Timmy continues to be delighted to greet everyone including one of our neighbour who seems to want to tell us his life story in great detail every time he sees us!

SUNDAY 19th APRIL 2008
What a magnificent day- we set off at 9.30 and arrived on site at 12.30pm in bright sunlight with unbroken blue skies. While Di checked in I walked down to the edge of the site overlooking the sea and found an unoccupied pitch in an ideal position. We didn’t hesitate or look for alternatives, this one couldn’t be bettered! Surprisingly there wasn’t any wind despite looking straight over the sea towards Ireland.
We spent the rest of the day just sitting outside the MH basking in the sun, in fact it was so hot I put the sun shade out to get some shade for Timmy.
Our mobile phones on Voda and O2 both have full signal strength but unfortunately my internet connection on the Three network is non existent so this blog is being typed in Word ready for posting when we return home.
