13th May 09. On route to the CL caravan site for Gilly's wedding I blacked out driving motorhome on M5 at Exeter. Di took control, with us zig zagging over 3 lanes of the motorway I regained consciousness and took control again. Then I drove back home (God knows how) and went (Di drove) to our GP who sent me to Derriford Hospital for emergency admission. I remember nothing of the above.
I had an ECG, EEG and a CT of my head. I was kept in overnight and discharged the next day as they couldn’t find anything wrong.
15th May 09. Blacked out in bedroom at home, Di phoned for an ambulance who took me to Torbay hospital as they had the result of my 6 day monitoring (which we subsequently found out showed nothing). Traffic just parted with the ambulance flashing blue lights and two tone horns.
Admitted to A&E (ER in US) where I blacked out 4 times, the last two with ECG attached. The plan was to have a pacemaker fitted on the 18th but the last blackout of 20 secs flat line prompted a temporary external pacemaker to be fitted. This was a box taped to my right arm with leads going into my jugular vein into my heart.

At least that went to plan without me!
Flower girl, Holly, is my son's daughter.
18th May 09. Permanent pacemaker fitted under my left collar bone with pacing set at 60 per minute. An interesting experience done under local anaesthetic, not without pain but not all that much more than a dentist inflicts! Feeling much more confident now watching the ECG display for hours on end and seeing the pacemaker popping in the occasional pulse and my heart responding with a corresponding contracting pulse.
19th May 09. Pacemaker checked and I was discharged. Di collected me and we drove home for a quiet evening and a super night's sleep without beeping monitors!
