Went to Torbay hospital today for a check-up on my pacemaker- absolutely fascinating the amount of information the tiny device stores for downloading. Everything is working fine and I appear to be using it for only 28% of the time which I'm told is good for battery life! They tweaked the energising voltage down from 3.5V down to 2.5V- again good for battery life. This is well above my threshold of about 0.9V which is sufficient to trigger a heart beat. The lead resistance was also downloaded- it's 500 ohms and hasn't changed in 4 weeks indicating it hasn't moved and is implanted in good heart tissue.
Plus yippee, they had a reply from the makers about ham radio and pacemakers. I can transmit up to 1KW as long as I'm more than 4 feet from the transmitter. Well, we're only allowed 400W anyway and I use 100W max, so back on the air again.
That's all for now folks- I'm off to pour a beer to celebrate!
ps I drove the car back home after a break of 5 weeks.
