MARLBOROUGH

Sometimes, well quite often, I forget to update the blog for a few days. This is typical, it's now Thursday and I think it was Monday when we went to Marlborough about 15 miles south of our site. If you remember our history you will know that we spent many years caravanning in this area during the 80's and 90's. We were even arrested by the police- a prank by our friend in the police force! So it was very much a trip down memory lane.
It hasn't changed much, just a few shops gone and replaced by others. Polly Tea Rooms are still there and still charging silly prices for tea and cakes! We had a picnic lunch in the nearby Savernake Forest- the place where we first caravanned for a few years before going to a nearby CL at Clench Common.
After lunch we made our way to Clench Common, hoping to find our old friends, Albert & Shirley, who own the CL but there was no sign of them. We guessed, correctly, that Albert would be out harvesting as he and his grandson Thomas pulled into the field in tractors towing 10 ton trailers. It was really good seeing them again, Albert still working well into his 70's and Tom who we remember from a baby. Tom is now married and living in the cottage a few 100 yards away. We had a cup of tea with Tom and saw his Springer Spaniel pup, just 6 weeks old.
Back at Albert's we had a chat in the kitchen and were just about to leave when Shirley came back from shopping. It was just like old times exchanging news.
That's about the end of our news for today.
