Holme Lacey near Hereford 1st- 11th April, a Caravan Club certificated location (The
certificate refers to a waiver of
planning permission to allow 5 caravans/motorhomes provided it it administered by the caravan club- it is commonly known as a CL)
The CL was located in a semicircle as part of the original farm garden adjacent to woods. This is where Timmy learnt another word SQUIRREL!
Many CL's are just a piece of a farm field with a water tap and a pit to empty the chemical toilet but increasingly the owners are now providing an electric hook up, hard standings and in some cases a shower block. Our location was all hard standings with the now essential to us, electric hook up. During the night we run a half a kilowatt heater and use the van's blown air system during the day.
During our stay we went to my birthplace, Newport, primarily to visit my parents grave. We also stopped outside the family home which has changed a little having new upvc windows and wrought iron gates leading to the garden. The garage has gone and a steel garden shed appears to be at the bottom of the garden. The surrounding area has been taken over by large, out of town stores, whereas the actual road has been reconstructed with a 20mph speed limit and 'traffic calming' chicanes. My mother would be proud of this as she campaigned for it many years ago.

Di's Aunt Kit and her daughter Hazel visited us for a meal and a good long chat! Kit lives just 10 miles away in Newent Glos.
Timmy had doggy presents from Hazel. I did one of our favourite meals of chicken in ratatouille with salad and crusty bread.
I would have liked to visit my great aunt and look at the factory where I did my apprenticeship but there was no time for that.
Rich, my stepson, called in to see us and stayed the night on his way back home from Bristol where he had been attending his father's funeral. Very sad as he was just a few months younger than me. It makes me more inclined to enjoy every day and have as many luxuries as we can afford- we only pass this way once in a very short period of time.

We visited Tintern and drove down the Wye valley, not particularly spectacular at this time of year with no leaves on the trees, far better in the autumn.
