Today we set off to Rich's in Wilmslow ready for having the new car modified with a 'A' frame for towing behind the motorhome. It's a long journey, some 272 miles then back another 26 miles back to Stoke on Trent to Towtall for the fitting. As you can see in the photo it's quite a hefty lump of metalwork (the golden coloured piece) which replaces the original presses steel cross member. My only misgiving is that the original was part of the frontal crumple zone and the new piece will obviously not crumple!
I had to be in Stoke by 9am, navigating through the rush hour, fortunately with my trusty sat-nav! It was then a long wait doing nothing until 3pm. I did have the opportunity to view the work and talk to the fitter doing the job. It makes a refreshing change from the usual secrecy of car workshops hiding behind health and safety to prevent you seeing them doing a shoddy job.
It was then back to Wilmslow for the night before the long ride to Devon the next day.
