Yesterday we made our way east and a bit south to Englethwaite Hall in Cumbria about 7 miles from Carlisle. This is a Caravan Club minimal facilities site with no shower block etc, just water filling and disposal facilities. That's fine for us as we hardly ever use anything other than the shower and that's only laziness as we have one in the MH.
The journey was a bit fraught as we were low on diesel but managed a fill with just 40 miles remaining in the tank. Not cheap at £1.05 per litre but an investment as the damn government will be slapping yet another 2p per litre tax on it next week.
The site is on the grounds of a former country house which was built in 1882 and demolished in 1969 as, by that time it, had become unsafe. There are some deep ponds in the woods around the site which are the remnants of gypsum quarrying used for making plaster of Paris. This was the business of the house owner.

Later we went to Talkin Country Park, a large lake with marked trails. It started quite hot, we even had the A/C on in the car but was windy and by the time we had walked about half a mile it started to rain. Tim was fascinated by the ducks, fortunately (for them) he was on the lead!
