AN AFTERNOON IN WHITBY

Whitby is a small fishing town and seems to be a tourist magnet, with a fine beach offering fun for kids with Donkey rides- dogs are banned but just look at the donkey droppings! Photo above shows a steam driven bus with the inevitable face of Ivor the engine painted on the front to attract the kids. We walked through the harbour area to the pier passing very many fish & chip shops, ice cream, candy floss, seafood and gift shops. It made Torquay look positive refined! One cafe was called "Tea and Tarts", at my age I don't know which I would choose!
Photo left shows the harbour entrance with the Abbey ruins on the top of the hill

Obviously Di and Timmy and the beach plus the Pier and Lighthouse which I climbed to the top of via an internal spiral staircase. The views were spectacular but my legs were aching and I was definitely not happy with the height! I thought I could stand height but the overhang at the top made me very uneasy.
This is Di and Timmy from the top!
