We stopped for lunch at a motorway service area, where I tried the car expecting the same grating gears noise but nothing, it worked as normal!
On arrival at the site, I tried it again with the same positive outcome but we were not happy with the uncertainty at the start of our trip, so decide to take it to a Toyota service centre. They seem to be a bit thin on the ground in this area, but we managed to find a main dealer about 20 miles away. The service was amazing - we were there less than 30 minutes, in which time we had a cup of coffee, the car had been test driven and connected to the diagnostic computer. This, apparently, showed a 2 second glitch when the gears were out of sync, but the clever little car computer then reset itself to factory settings, surprisingly all of this was free!!Just a ps. Internet is so slow here, it took an hour to add the photos!

Nothing worse than starting a vacation with possible car troubles! We have first hand experience with this so I am very glad that things turned out fine. I'm a bit behind in my blogs reading, and am just catching up. Your vacation sounds wonderful! I look forward to seeing more pictures and posts.
