Torrential rain all night and most of the day, to such
an extent that we were standing in 3” of water around the MH. Our host was so sure the
pitch didn’t get waterlogged and we, like fools, believed her. There are 2
golden rules of camping never to be broken - don't park under trees as it drips
for hours after the rain has stopped and secondly never park at the bottom of a
hill. We broke the latter ,- never again!
The site owner was very complacent about the fact that we were marooned, so we just had to wait until the flood
subsided.
My mind was made up - MOVE PITCH ASAP!
Next day we plotted our exit strategy by walking the route
the MH would take, judging the squelch factor of the ground.
Di stood at the optimal point of our route, I drove straight at her
feeding revs on the engine as I picked up speed. She dived out of the way and the
MH splashed through the soggy area to a high much drier high
point !
Spirit levels out, this is where we stay, but it
was quite a bit off level, front to back and across axle. Nothing else for it, it had
to be a 3 levelling block job. After a bit of messing around it was level
enough, so I coupled up to the mains electric - NOTHING, a dead socket! Options, 1 - move to another
pitch even less level or 2- find the site owner to investigate the fault on the post.
Our illustrious site owner is not a happy person, even if
you can find her, so I expected a less than joyous
welcome! As it happened, I found her husband, who was even more miserable than
his wife!
He
reset the trip switch inside the site electric box, then pronounced that our MH
was too close to the entrance and needed to move about a yard. Needless to say that was not our opinion! He left, we moved, Di was fuming!
