THE ICE BREAKER

I may have used the same title last year, however, here it is again for our first trip away in the motorhome. This time it certainly has a grain of truth – see later! We seem to have been preparing for weeks and finally we were ready to leave, or so we thought! A quick check of the house drains revealed a major problem- they were blocked and next door's drains feed into ours. So it could not be left until we return. I arranged for a man to sort it and our kind neighbour to oversee the operation.
So we hit the road for the first time with the new ‘A’ frame towing system on the car. It seems to work well and only weighs 10Kgs, half the weight of the previous one. It was a fine sunny day, a bit cold but no problem until we reached
Dorchester, white with snow! We followed the tracks through the slush until just before our destination near Corfe Castle close to the Dorset coast.
We weren't hopeful to get our favourite pitch as the site had opened on Friday, so had to accept a rather exposed spot with a slope, as usual. The next day we spotted signs of packing up on a pitch opposite. It has a bank to the rear and side, in fact our favourite pitch! As soon as the occupants moved off we moved in at the speed of light and were all set up again in half an hour.
Later in the day the sun came out making it hot enough to sit out for about an hour but that night we paid for it with the weather changing again to gale force wind, rain and 3C temperatures. It’s been like that for the last 6 days!
Tim and I walk to the Swanage Steam Railway http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/ for the morning stroll, fortunately, in these low temperatures, he still has his winter coat as I haven’t yet given him a trim this year.
That’s about it until we can get out and about when the weather improves.

It never did improve! We abandoned this holiday after 8 days, had a refund and went home with £130 towards a tank full of heating oil!

I'm behind in reading your blog because...well there hasn't been much time for the internet lately. I was glad to start catching up again. It must be wonderful to be able to look at even considering getting out on the road at this time of year. You bring me Spring so that you fro that. On the 18th of March, we got 25 cm of snow, which despite my prediction that it would leave is still here as I type this! Here's hoping your weather improves and Timmy can get a haircut and I can see more of the lovely pictures you post. I travel vicariously through your blog, you know ;) And if we ever get out antenna up again - once the snow goes - we'll have to arrange a contact.
