The fridge mains
electric failed again after just 2 years. It’s a specialist job, not one I can
fix myself. Thursday 26 June, the much awaited fridge repair man was due to
visit us having repeatedly phoned him for almost a week. We thought it a good
idea to remove the cream carpet to avoid any damage; however, it revealed a wet
patch at the base of one of the kitchen units. A quick investigation revealed a
leaking water pump. No, it wasn't just a leaky fitting requiring tightening but
water pulsating out of the pump body. The pump was knackered! (techno speak)
I hoped luck would be on our side and the
fridge man would have one in his van- no such luck, naturally!
The fridge job went quite well with a
spent fuse replaced on the control pcb and the element replaced without
completely withdrawing the fridge from the housing. John, the repair man,
seemed to be able to work by feel at the rear of the fridge.
Cost so far, £135 and still a new pump to
sort. Di scanned the internet and yes, many available at about £45 but none
near enough to collect. So there was nothing else for it but to phone the
nearest caravan dealer about 20 miles away near Darlington . They had just one at £80, beggars can’t
be choosers, get in the car and collect it!
It was the correct model and fitted into
the existing pipe work without modification..
Peace restored, fridge working, hot and
cold water, loo flushing again!
